PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern Head Coach Ross James released the 2024-25 Firehawk women's basketball schedule on Tuesday. UT Southern has 25 games on the itinerary this season. The program touts a 473-482 (.495) record in the four-year era since the 1993-94 season.
NEW LEADERSHIP
This season will be the inaugural season under Head Coach James. James comes to UTS from a stint at Fordham University as an assistant coach. James holds a 49-38 career record from four remarkable years, at NCAA DIII Mary Baldwin University. Coach James also has had stops at Utah State and Sacred Heart Universities as assistant coach.
2024-25 SCHEDULE
UT Southern's schedule composition includes 16 Southern States Athletic Conference games, two NCAA DI exhibition games, and seven non-conference matchups.
The Firehawks open the season with three dates in October. The first pair include exhibitions with Middle Tennessee State (25
th) and former TranSouth Athletic Conference foe Union University (26th). The Ambassadors of Oakwood Univesity will be the home opener for the Firehawks on October 29
th.
In November, UT Southern has six gamedays during the month. The Firehawks will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to tangle Stillman (9th). SSAC play opens on the 14
th and 16
th with a road face off with Faulkner and a home match with William Carey. Before the Thanksgiving break, UTS will travel to New Orleans, La., to wrestle the Wolfpack of Loyola (21st). The month will close out with a pair of NCAA DII road games with Montevallo University (26th) and the University of Alabama Huntsville (30th).
December sees five game dates for the Firehawks. UTS opens the month hosting Mobile on the 7
th. The set of games on the road includes Cumberland (17th), Life (21st), and an exhibition with Austin Peay (28th). 2024 ends with a home date with Georgetown on the 30
th.
The 2025 half of the season begins an exclusive SSAC slate with five January dates and six in February.
In January, the action begins with a home meeting with Blue Mountain Christian on the 4
th and Loyola on the 11
th. The Firehawks will make a Georgia swing to face SSAC newcomer Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (16th) and Point on the 23
rd. The month ends with the Knights of Middle Georgia State coming to Pulaski on the 30
th.
Down the stretch, UTS will have home games with Thomas (2/1), Faulkner (2/12), and Brewton-Parker (2/15). Road affairs in February include Mobile (2/6), William Carey (2/8), and Blue Mountain Christian (2/22).
The SSAC Championship will be held between February 26 through March 1 in Montgomery, Ala.
NEW FACES
UT Southern women's basketball head coach Ross James has announced the signing of five players for the 2024-25 season, enhancing both the backcourt and frontcourt. The Firehawks welcome three guards:
Ashley Dickey, Silki Vasquez Trouche, and
Alexis Halley along with forwards
Kylie Jo Ramsey &
Daysha Reid. Coach James expressed his excitement, stating, "I am thrilled that each of these student-athletes chose to join the Firehawk family. Each player brings a unique skill set that will complement our team."
Ashley Dickey - Junior guard
Ashley Dickey, a transfer from CCBC in Maryland, contributed to her team's third consecutive Region 20 Junior College D2 championship, averaging 15 PPG and 4.7 REB, and earning Junior College All-American honors.
Silki Vazquez – Junior guard Silki Vasquez Trouche, a transfer from Chattanooga State, led her team to the NJCAA Women's Division I National Tournament while averaging 12.8 PPG and 7.8 assists who also earned Junior College All-American honors.
Alexis Halley – Freshman guard
Alexis Halley, hailing from Wayne Memorial High School in Michigan and the AAU program 1 Nation, is recognized for her speed and defensive prowess.
Kylie Jo Ramsey – Freshman forward
Kylie Jo Ramsey, attended Hardin County High School in Tennessee and played for the Mid South Ballers AAU team.
Daysha Reid – Senior forward
Daysha Reid, who began at CCBC before stints at Longwood and Chicago State, averaged 4.9 PPG and 5.1 REB at CCBC before joining UT Southern.
