PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play hosting William Carey of Friday. The Firehawks stumbled in straight sets to the Crusaders.
UT Southern (1-5, 0-1) traded points with the visitors trailing nine to seven. The Crusaders reeled off 11 of the next 15 points to control the first set 25-12. UT Southern began the second set trailing five to one. The Firehawks pieced together a 10-4 run, powered by four terminations from
Morgan Avrit to the lead 11-8. The Crusaders claimed 17 of the final 26 points closing out the second set win. The final set saw WCU open up a seven to two lead forcing a UTS timeout. The Firehawks would begin to make several runs down the stretch, but William Carey kept control of the final set takin the match win.
