Jaylen Osbey Joins UT Southern Women’s Basketball Staff as Assistant Coach

Former Nichols College standout brings proven player development and recruiting success to the Firehawks

PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball program has announced the hiring of Jaylen Osbey as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.

Osbey brings a wealth of experience in player development, recruiting, and leadership to the Firehawks. He most recently served as the Head Varsity Women's Basketball Coach and Director of Basketball Operations at SouthLake Christian Academy, where he revitalized the program by doubling its wins each season. He has also worked as Director of Collegiate Basketball Recruiting for AssistU Recruiting and as Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Lady Attack Elite, helping every player on his roster advance to NCAA Division I or II programs.

Before beginning his coaching career, Osbey was a standout player at Nichols College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. During his time with the Bison, he served as team captain and helped lead the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance, win, and Sweet 16 berth in school history. Osbey was part of teams that won the 2015–16 ECAC Championship and the 2016–17 CCC Conference Championship, marking one of the most successful stretches in Nichols College basketball history.

UT Southern Head Coach Ross James expressed his enthusiasm about adding Osbey to the staff."I'm thrilled to welcome Jaylen to our program," James said. "He brings outstanding energy, strong recruiting connections, and a proven ability to develop players and build meaningful relationships. Jaylen's experience and approach to the game will be a tremendous asset to our program."

Osbey shared his excitement about joining the Firehawks and contributing to the continued growth of the women's basketball program."I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Coach James and the UT Southern family," Osbey said. "This program has a strong foundation, and I'm excited to help our players grow both on and off the court. My goal is to bring energy, passion, and a player-first mentality every day."

In addition to his collegiate and high school coaching success, Osbey has worked extensively as a professional player development coach, training athletes from high school prospects to WNBA and NCAA standouts.
