TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team hit the road on Monday to salsa with Stillman. The twin bill was moved up to ensure completion due to favorable chances of rain on Tuesday. The Firehawks fell in game one 8-7 and fell in the seventh 10-7 in game two.
GAME ONE: SC 8, UTS 7
UT Southern jumped on the Tigers early scoring six runs in the third.
Hannah Lindsey singled to left scoring
Haley McDaniel.
Kassidy Davis kept the inning going, singling up the middle driving in Lindsey.
Marie Bodily slapped one through the infield, scoring
Mikayla McCain.
Stella Gilbreath doubled to right center scoring Davis.
Ella Singletary put one in play allowing Bodily to cross the plate. Gilbreath scored later via a passed ball. Stillman rallied for a five spot in the bottom half to trail 6-5 after three complete.
UTS added a run in the fourth on a ground ball by Lindsey pushing McDaniel home. The Firehawks held the lead until the sixth as SC scored three to pull a head.
Singletary tossed 5.2 innings allowing all eight runs while striking out six. Davis recorded the final out in the sixth.
GAME TWO: SC 10, UTS 7
In game two, the Firehawks scored four of six total runs in the opening inning. Davis drew a free pass allowing
Lauren Pettie to cross the plate. Gilbreath doubled off the wall in left center clearing the bases as Davis, McCain, and Lindsey scored. Stillman added a pair in the fourth to tie the game at four each.
UTS added two runs in the fourth. McDaniel doubled to left plating
Hanna Hill and Gilbreath. In the fifth, Gilbreath singled to left driving in McCain giving the Firehawks a 7-4 lead. SC would score one run in the fifth shaving the UTS advantage to two with two innings to go.
In the seventh, the Tigers plated five to walk off on the Firehawks.
Gilbreath tossed 6.2 innings allowing 10 runs on 14 hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action on Wednesday, February 12, hosting Oakwood at Royce Hughes Field. The double header is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
