PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball got back on the field on Sunday after wintry weather halted a pair of twin bills earlier in the week. UT Southern hosted Faulkner at Royce Hughes Field. The Eagles took game one 8-5, and the Firehawks returned the favor, run-ruling the visitors 10-2 in the second game. The Firehawks moved to 2-5 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
GAME ONE: FLKN 8, UTS 5
Faulkner struck first scoring a run in the second and three more in the third. UT Southern answered back when
Hanna Hill scored after an action packed sacrifice bunt by
Haley McDaniel. UTS trailed 4-1 after three.
Faulkner added two more in the fifth, but UTS matched their effort. McDaniel singled to right scoring
Ella Singletary. Batters later,
Mikayla McCain put on in play driving in Hill. UTS trailed 6-3 after five.
In the sixth, McDaniel singled to center scoring
Marie Bodily. Heading to the seventh, the Eagles led 7-5.
Singletary tossed five innings allowing four earned runs while striking out two.
Bailey Abernathy tossed the final two innings allowing two runs.
GAME TWO: UTS 10, FLKN 2
In game two, Faulkner got on the board in the first inning. Bodily answered with a three run double scoring Hannah Linsdey, McCain, and
Lauren Pettie. The Firehawks continued the onslaught on a McCain single in the second that drove in McDaniel.
UTS leading 4-1, added more runs in the third. Hill singled to left scoring Bodily. McCain singled to second Scoring
Kaley Ezell. UTS led 6-1 after three.
Faulkner scored their final run on a solo homer in the fourth. Hill singled to center driving in Ezell again. McDaniel drew a free pass forcing in Ezell.
In the fifth, Ezell walked it off with a single to left scoring Bodily and Lindsey.
Stella Gilbreath tossed the complete game earning her first win of the year. She allowed two runs on six hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action at the Royce hosting Oakwood on Tuesday, February 25. First pitch is slated for two p.m.
