Firehawks Drop Series to No. 18 Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team returned to the diamond at Harrison Field on Saturday hoping to take the final pair of the series with #18 Faulkner. In game two, Faulkner squeaked by with a 6-5 win, and in game three UTS fell 10-0 in seven innings. UTS moved to 6-9 overall and 1-5 in league play on the year.
GAME TWO: FAULKNER 6, UTS 5
In the seven inning affair, Chambers McGilberry (3-1) took the bump suffering his first blemish on the year. McGilberry tossed 3.1 innings allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Danton Rinehart tossed the final 2.2 innings. He allowed one earned run on two hits.
After falling behind 3-0 after two innings, UTS got on the board with a Gattis Henley solo shot to left field. Trailing 3-1, the Eagles answered back scoring three more runs in the fourth. In the fifth, Brayden Buckner smashed a three run moon shot scoring Devin Buckhalter and Jamil Betancourt. UTS came up short in the sixth and seventh to tie the game.
GAME THREE: #18 Faulkner 10, UTS 0
Barrett Brown (1-2) got the start tossing four innings. He allowed six runs on seven hits. Jake Stuteville allowed two runs on two hits. Blake Medley tossed 1.1 innings and allowed a pair of runs. Cooper Bailey recorded the final out via strikes.
The Firehawks were handcuffed by Eagle pitching in game three. Coleman Siniard recorded the lone hit in the final inning.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will travel to Lebanon, Tenn., on Tuesday, February 25, to challenge Cumberland at Woody Hunt Field. CU defeated the Firehawks on the 18th in 10 innings 12-8 in Pulaski. First pitch is set for one p.m.
