LEBANON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team returned to the diamond at Woody Hunt Field on Tuesday closing out the season series with Cumberland. UTS got on the board first, but couldn't overcome an eight run first by CU falling 16-12. UTS moved to 6-10 overall on the year.
Brayden Buckner gave the Firehawks the early lead doubling down the left field line driving in
Cannon Raby.
Coleman Siniard singled to left scoring
Collin Perkins. Later in the inning
Zach Chaney put one in play plating Buckner. UTS trailed 8-3 after one.
In the second,
Devin Buckhalter left the park with a solo shot trimming the lead to 8-4.
The next inning saw Buckner leave the yard over the right field wall. UTS trailed 8-6 after three.
In the fifth, Siniard singled to left scoring Perkins. Chaney put one in play that allowed
Gattis Henley to come across the plate. Buckner scored later in the inning off an error by a
Sebastian Matlock batted ball. Buckhalter tied the game with his single up the middle scoring Barnett. UTS and CU were tied at 10 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth trailing 12-10, Siniard punched one over the right field fence cutting the lead to one.
CU would add runs in the sixth and seventh that would preserve the win. Henley also hit a homer to right in the eighth.
Danton Rinehart got the start allowing eight runs.
Jake Stuteville tossed 2.2 innings allowing four hits.
Blake Medley tossed an inning allowing two runs on four hits.
Cooper Bailey (0-2) took the loss giving up two runs.
Cody Womble recorded two outs allowing one run.
Austin Uptain pitched the sixth and seventh saddled by three runs.
Tavien Tigg tossed a scoreless eighth issuing one free pass.

The Firehawks will return to Bobby Walker Field on Friday, February 28, hosting William Carey for SSAC three game set. First pitch Friday is set for four p.m.
