PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team returned to the diamond at Bobby Walker Field on Friday Beginning a weekend three game series with #9 William Carey. UTS fell in eight innings 19-8. UTS fell to 6-11 overall and 1-6 in league play on the year.
WCU put up a four spot in the second and third to lead 8-0 early. UTS bounced back with four of their own in the third.
Cody Womble singled through the right side scoring
Collin Perkins and
Gattis Henley. Womble later scored on a wild pitch.
Coleman Siniard singled to left scoring
Brayden Buckner. UTS trailed 8-4 after three.
UTS added two more in the fourth.
Cannon Raby scored on a wild pitch. Perkins singled to second driving in
Devin Buckhalter. UTS trailed 8-6 heading to the fifth.
WCU added two in the fifth, extending the lead to 10-6. Henley answered with a three bagger to left center scoring Buckhalter and Raby. UTS was behind 10-8 after five.
WCU would runoff with the game scoring two in the sixth, three in the seventh, and a pair in the eighth.
Ridge Raper (1-3) got the start tossing three innings allowing eight earned runs and striking out four.
Blake Medley pitched 1.1 innings giving up three runs.
Tavien Tigg worked an inning allowing three runs.
Austin Uptain tossed two innings allowing five runs and striking out four.
Hunter Hancock recorded the final two outs not allowing a hit.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will return to Bobby Walker Field on Saturday, March 1, hosting William Carey for game two and three of the SSAC three game set. First pitch Saturday is set for one p.m.
