MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball dipped back into Southern States Athletic Conference play battling #20 Mobile on Friday. UM took game one 3-0, and UTS handed the Rams a 8-5 loss in game two. The Firehawks moved to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in league play on the season.
GAME ONE: #20UM 3, UTS 0
Mobile scored a pair in the first and one in the second to hold the 3-0 lead.
UT Southern racked up a pair of hits in the third by
Haley McDaniel and
Lauren Pettie but UTS couldn't take advantage. In the sixth, the Firehawks got a two out hit by
Marie Bodily, however she was left on the base paths.
Ella Singletary (1-3) tossed the complete game. She allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out five.
GAME TWO: UTS 8, #20UM 5
In game two, UTS started the scoring off with a
Carley Cook double in the second. Cooks base knock scored
Kassidy Davis. Mobile added their first run in the bottom half to tie the score at one each.
Mobile took a 4-1 lead after scoring one in the third and two in the fourth. UT Southern turned the tables in the fifth plating four runs.
Hannah Lindsey hit a sacrifice fly that scored
Hanna Hill.
Mikayla McCain singled down the right field line driving in McDaniel. Cook got another hit that plated both
Serenity Halstead and
Lauren Pettie. UTS led 5-4 after five.
UM scored one more in the sixth to tie the game at five with one inning left.
In the seventh, UTS scored three to win game two. Bodily doubled to right center scoring McCain. Hill hit an infield single scoring Bodily. McDaniel singled to right scoring Singletary.
Stella Gilbreath (2-2) tossed the complete game. She allowed four earned runs on eight hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action on Saturday, traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss., to challenge #14 William Carey. The twin bill is set to begin at noon.
