HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball closed out a tough Southern States Athletic Conference weekend taking on #14 William Carey in a twin bill on Saturday. UTS led 2-1 late in game one falling 4-2 and dropping game two 4-0. The Firehawks moved to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in league play on the season.
GAME ONE: #14WCU 4, UTS 2
UT Southern struck first in the third inning.
Hannah Lindsey singled to left driving in
Haley McDaniel. WCU would even the game in the bottom of the inning.
In the fourth, UTS reclaimed the lead.
Hanna Hill singled to left scoring
Carley Cook. UTS led 2-1 after four.
William Carey scored three in the sixth to defeat the Firehawks.
Ella Singletary (1-4) tossed the complete game. She allowed four earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine.
GAME TWO: #14WCU 4, UTS 0
William Carey scored in the first, second, third, and fifth.
Kassidy Davis singled in the fifth, and
Mikayla McCain singled in the seventh.
Stella Gilbreath (2-3) tossed the complete game. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action next weekend in the Gulf Shores Invitational. UTS will play multiple opponents over Friday and Saturday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
