GULF SHORES, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team hit the road on Friday to compete in the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Firehawks defeated Central Baptist College 4-3 in extra innings and fell go Brenau 4-1. Tomorrow UT Southern will face off with William Woods and Nelson tomorrow.
GAME ONE: UTS 4, CBC 3 – 8 INNINGS
The Mustangs took the lead first scoring one and two runs in the second and third innings. The Firehawks had a big inning in the fifth to tie the game at three.
Haley McDaniel doubled knocking in
Ella Singletary and
Serenity Halstead.
Hannah Lindsey singled down the left field line plating McDaniel.
Singletary (2-4) held the Mustangs to only three hits from the four inning on. She recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed three earned runs.
In the bottom on the eighth,
Kassidy Davis delivered the walk off single to right. Her hit scored
Lauren Pettie.
GAME TWO: BU 4, UTS 1
In game two of the day, the Firehawks scored in the first to lead 1-0.
Mikayla McCain singled through the right side driving in McDaniel. The Tigers plated three runs in the second and one in the third.
Stella Gilbreath (2-4) tossed six innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action on Saturday, March 8, playing William Woods at nine a.m. and Nelson (AZ) at 11:15 a.m.
