Firehawk Comeback Falls Short in Series Opener with Skyhawks

WEST POINT, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern began a Southern States Athletic Conference three-game slate with Point University on Thursday. The weekend series was scheduled for Friday and Saturday but was shifted ahead to avoid potentially severe storms. The Firehawks fell 7-5 in the nine-inning affair today. UTS fell to 9-16 overall and 2-11 in league play.
The Skyhawks scored all seven of their runs in the first five innings. PU led 7-0 heading to the sixth.
In the sixth, UTS got on the board when Brayden Buckner scored on a wild pitch. Later in the at-bat, Evan Nelson singled driving in Jamil Betancourt. UTS trailed 7-2.
In the eighth, Collin Perkins doubled driving in Grayson Willis. Nelson put a ball in play allowing Betancourt to score again. Devin Buckhalter tripled driving in Perkins.
