WEST POINT, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern began a Southern States Athletic Conference three-game slate with Point University on Thursday. The weekend series was scheduled for Friday and Saturday but was shifted ahead to avoid potentially severe storms. The Firehawks fell 7-5 in the nine-inning affair today. UTS fell to 9-16 overall and 2-11 in league play.
The Skyhawks scored all seven of their runs in the first five innings. PU led 7-0 heading to the sixth.
In the sixth, UTS got on the board when
Brayden Buckner scored on a wild pitch. Later in the at-bat,
Evan Nelson singled driving in
Jamil Betancourt. UTS trailed 7-2.
In the eighth,
Collin Perkins doubled driving in
Grayson Willis. Nelson put a ball in play allowing Betancourt to score again.
Devin Buckhalter tripled driving in Perkins.
Ridge Raper (1-5) tossed the complete game allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will close out the series tomorrow against Point. Game two of the series will begin at one p.m.
