PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball welcomed Blue Mountain Christian to Royce Hughes Field on Friday for a conference showdown. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but were moved up a day to avoid the threat of severe weather. The Firehawks pinned the Toppers 3-0 in game one and won game two 11-2 in five innings. UTS improved to 12-8 overall and 4-4 in league play on the year.
GAME ONE: UTS 3, BMCU 0
Ella Singletary (5-4) mowed down the Toppers striking out five of the first nine batters she faced. She allowed one hit and one other runner to reach, striking out nine total batters.
UT Southern broke the tie in the sixth scoring three runs.
Kassidy Davis was hit by a pitch forcing in
Hanna Hill.
Mikayla McCain lasered one up the middle scoring
Haley McDaniel and
Lauren Pettie.
GAME TWO: UTS 11, BMCU 2 – 5 INNINGS
In game two of the day, the Firehawks broke the scoreboard in the first and third innings, scoring five runs in each. In the first, McCain singled down the left field line scoring McDaniel.
Hannah Lindsey's reached on a throwing error that allowed Davis to score.
Carley Cook singled up the middle scoring McCain and Lindsey. Hill poked one through the left side plating
Marie Bodily. UTS led 5-0 after one.
Both teams scored one in the second. McCain put one leading to a BMCU error that Pettie scored from. UTS led 6-1 after two.
In the third, Pettie singled two third scoring Singletary. Davis doubled to left center driving in McDaniel and Hill. McCain hit a foul sacrifice fly to right scoring Pettie. Lindsey also hit a sacrifice fly scoring Davis. UTS led 11-1 after three.
Stella Gilbreath got the start tossing 3.1 innings. She allowed two earned runs on six hits.
Jayci Boozer (3-0) hurled the final five outs not allowing a hit.

The Firehawks are back in action on Friday, March 21, hosting Middle Georgia State at Royce Hughes Field. First pitch is set for one p.m.
