Firehawk Hitting Thwarted Off by Knight Pitching

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team hosted SSAC foe Middle Georgia State to Royce Hughes Field on Friday. The Knights narrowly escaped with a pair of wins 1-0 and 3-0. UTS fell to 12-10 overall and 4-6 in league play on the year.
GAME ONE: MGSU 1, UTS 0
In a true definition of a pitchers' dual, the reigning SSAC Pitcher of the Week, Ella Singletary, faced off with the next PotW. Singletary (5-5) held the powerful MGSU offense to six hits and one earned run in the seven inning affair. Singletary struckout four Knight hitters, and her counterpart fanned 14 Firehawks allowing only two hits.
UT Southern gave up the lone run of the game in the fifth off a double. Hannah Linsdey broke up the no-hitter in the bottom half and was stranded on the basepaths. In the sixth, Hanna Hill reached on a single to left.
GAME TWO: MGSC 3, UTS 0
In game two, the Firehawks surrendered a pair of homeruns in the 3-0 loss. Stella Gilbreath (3-5) allowed seven hits to Knight batters.
In the first, UTS logged the first hit by Kassidy Davis. On the play, the Firehawks were gifted a MGSU error putting a runner in scoring position with one out. UTS got cooking again in the third, with back-to-back hits by Hill and McDaniel both runners would reach scoring position via a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Pettie.
MGSU took the lead in the fourth with a two-run homer. UTS trailed 2-0 after four.
In the fifth, Hill laced one off the Knight pitcher and a throwing error moved her to second with one out.
MGSU added one more in the sixth on a solo shot.
