LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball took on #3 Georgia Gwinnett in the opening game of a rare non-conference weekend set. The Grizzlies ended it in seven defeating UTS 14-2 on Friday. UTS moved to 9-20 overall on the year.
UTS only connected with five base hits in the game.
Devin Buckhalter led the game off with a hit but was stranded on third. GGU blew the game open with an eight spot in the opening frame.
The Firehawks continued to battle with
Cody Womble and
Evan Nelson getting hits in the second. Both would be stranded in scoring position.
The #3 Grizzlies added three more runs in the third to lead 11-0.
UTS, down 12-0 in the fifth, got another hit from
Sebastian Matlock.
GGC scored their final two runs in the six to lead 14-0.
UTS had baserunners galore in the seventh.
Mason Billions began the anarchy. Billions, Matlock, and Buckhalter walked to load the bases for
Cannon Raby. Raby singled to left driving in Matlock and
Jamil Betancourt.

The Firehawks will close out the three game set with #3 Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
