LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball closed out a long weekend series with #3 Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday. UTS fell 13-7 in game two and dropped game three 32-2 in seven. UTS moved to 9-22 overall on the year.
GAME TWO: #3 GGC 13, UTS 7
UTS took the early lead in the first inning,
Brayden Buckner's sacrifice fly to center scoring
Devin Buckhalter. The Grizzlies scored three to lead 3-1 after one inning.
Both teams scored in the third.
Cole Barnett singled to left driving in
Cody Womble and Buckhalter.
Zach Hayes drew a bases loaded walk to force in
Gattis Henley. UTS led 4-3 heading to the bottom of the second. GGC answered with three runs of their own.
In the seventh, Buckner got another RBI on a solo shot. The Grizzlies got the run back in the bottom of the seventh to lead 7-5.
Buckhalter doubled to center driving in
Evan Nelson. In the home half of the eighth, Georgia Gwinnett plated six to break away.
Buckner launched another solo shot in the ninth for the Firehawks.
GAME THREE: #3 GGC 32, UTS 2
The #3 Grizzlies jumped out in front scoring the first 24 runs over the first three innings.
The Firehawks got on the board on a
Cannon Raby single to center plating Buckhalter. UTS trailed 24-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth, Womble singled up the middle scoring Buckhalter. UTS trailed 28-2 after five.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks return to the diamond with Tuesday, March 25, facing Oakwood in Huntsville, Ala. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
