TIFTON, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team hit the road on Saturday for a final two games of a weekend swing through Southern Georgia. UT Southern took on Abraham Baldwin on Saturday, sweeping the Fillies 5-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two. The Firehawks improved to 18-10 overall and 8-6 in conference play.
GAME ONE: UTS 5, ABAC 0
UT Southern got on the board first in the opening inning.
Mikayla McCain doubled to right field scoring
Lauren Pettie and
Haley McDaniel.
Kassidy Davis tacked on one more from her double to left center plating McCain. UTS led 3-0 after one.
In the sixth,
Hannah Lindsey singled to right driving in
Hanna Hill. McCain followed with a single to right scoring McDaniel.
Ella Singletary (7-5) took the win tossing seven innings of shutout softball. She allowed two hits and struck out two.
GAME TWO: UTS 2, ABAC 1
In game two, the Firehawks and Fillies didn't put any runs up until the fifth inning. ABAC took the slim 1-0 lead.
In the sixth, UTS plated two to ensure a win. McDaniel singled to second driving in Singletary. During the next at bat, Hill crossed the plate on a Fillies wild pitch.
Stella Gilbreath (5-5) tossed all seven innings allowing one earned run on five hits. She struckout six in the win.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action on Tuesday, April 1, battling Talladega in Talladega Ala. The double header is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
