OXFORD, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team took their win streak to eight with a pair of run-rule wins over Talladega College. UTS took game one 8-0 in six innings and exploded in the game two win 14-3 on Tuesday. The Firehawks improved to 20-10 overall.
GAME ONE: UTS 8, TC 0
UT Southern struck first in the opening frame, scoring three runs.
Kassidy Davis's double plated
Lauren Pettie for the first run.
Hannah Lindsey reached on a fielder's choice and drove in Davis.
Marie Bodily also lasered a double that drove in Lindsey. UTS led 3-0.
In the fourth,
Hanna Hill singled to score
Ella Singletary. Pettie followed with a single driving in Hill. Davis added another hit that drove in Pettie. Lindsey capped the action off with a single scoring Davis. UTS led 7-0 after four.
In the sixth, Bodily found some grass for a two-bagger driving in
Mikayla McCain.
Jayci Boozer (3-0) took the win, tossing six innings of shutout softball. She allowed three hits and struck out seven.
GAME TWO: UTS 14, TC 3
In game two, the Firehawks put up multiple runs in all five innings in a rout of the Tornadoes. Bodily started the first off with a single that scored Pettie and Singletary. UTS led 2-0.
Bodily kept added three more runs in the second. Her double cleared the sacks scoring McCain, Pettie, and Singletary. The Firehawks led 5-0 after two.
In the third,
Stella Gilbreath swiped home plate for the first run in the frame. Singletary and Davis followed up with a pair of singles that scored
Haley McDaniel and Singletary. UTS opened the lead up to 8-0 after three.
In the fourth, Gilbreath tripled to left, scoring
Hope Murphy. Gilbreath later scored on McDainel's sacrifice fly. UTS led 10-0 heading to the fifth.
In the final inning,
Brooke Kemp reached on a TC error that scored Pettie. Murphy singled to drive in Kemp. Gilbreath doubled that, drove in
Alyssa Mosley. Murphy crossed the plate via a wild pitch. TC would plate three in the final inning.
Bailey Abernathy (2-0) tossed four innings, allowing two hits.
Macey Ciramella tossed the fifth, allowing three earned runs.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action on Saturday, April 5, battling Thomas at Royce Hughes Field. The double header is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
