PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team celebrated their seniors on Saturday at Royce Hughes Field as they welcomed Thomas University. The series was noted as the Southern States Athletic Conference Series of the Week. Thomas took game one 9-1, and UTS claimed game two in come back fashion winning 6-2.
Bailey Abernathy,
Macey Ciramella,
Kaley Ezell,
Hanna Hill, and
Kassidy Davis were honored prior to the twin bill. The Firehawks improved to 21-11 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
GAME ONE: TU 9, UTS 1
The Nighthawks got on the board first scoring runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, scoring two runs in each inning. TU led 7-0 heading to the bottom of the seventh.
UT Southern got on the board in the final frame on a TU error that allowed Davis to cross the plate.
Ella Singletary (7-6) took the loss tossing six innings allowing three earned runs. She allowed eight hits and struckout seven.
Bailey Abernathy and
Jayci Boozer tossed the seventh inning.
GAME TWO: UTS 6, TU 2
In game two, the Firehawks trailed early 2-0 after Thomas scored a pair in the third.
Singletary singled to left driving in
Marie Bodily. UTS trailed 2-1 after four.
In the fifth,
Mikayla McCain hit a sacrifice fly to right allowing
Haley McDaniel to come home. After five innings, both teams were tied at two.
The Firehawks put together a huge inning in the sixth to blow the game wide open. McDaniel singled to left scoring
Serenity Halstead.
Lauren Pettie singled to center knocking in Singletary. Bodily reached on a Nighthawk error scoring Pettie.
Stella Gilbreath (7-5) tossed all seven innings allowing two earned runs on nine hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks are back in action on Tuesday, April 8, battling Brewton-Parker College at "the Royce". The double header is scheduled to start at two p.m.
