THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team began their final six game SSAC road trip against Thomas on Friday. UTS took game one 6-4 and fell in a walk off in game two 8-7. UTS moved to 15-26 overall and 7-16 in league play on the season.
GAME ONE: UTS 6, TU 4
The Firehawks scored four in the second to get ahead early.
Zach Chaney blasted a three-run homer scoring
Collin Perkins and
Cole Barnett.
Evan Nelson followed up with a solo shot giving the Firehawks a 4-0 lead.
The Nighthawks added a run in both the third and fourth innings shaving the Firehawk lead to two.
In the sixth,
Cannon Raby singled to right center scoring
Devin Buckhalter and
Evan Nelson. UTS led 6-2 after six.
Ridge Raper (4-7) tossed the complete game. He allowed four earned runs on 12 hits.
GAME TWO: TU 8, UTS 7
In game two,
Brayden Buckner singled to left center scoring
Cody Womble. UTS led 1-0 after one.
In the second,
Cole Barnett homered to left center. Raby drew a free pass forcing in Perkins. UTS led 3-0 after two.
The Nighthawks tied the game plating three runs in the fifth.
Both teams added one in the sixth.
Mason Billions hit a solo shot to left field.
In the seventh, TU took the lead scoring two runs.
Billions left the yard again in the eighth. His three run shot scored Perkins and Barnett. UTS led 7-6 heading to the ninth.
In the ninth, Thomas would score two on a walk-off single.
Jake Stuteville got the start tossing five innings. He allowed two earned runs on nine hits.
Tavien Tigg (0-1) tossed three innings allowing four earned runs on five hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will return to the diamond tomorrow closing out the series with Thomas. The final game opens up at noon.
