MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team hit the road for their final regular season conference road series against Brewton-Parker College on Friday. The Firehawks fell in two close games 5-3 and 19-17. UTS moved to 16-28 overall and 8-18 in league play on the season.
GAME ONE: BPC 5, UTS 3
The Barons took the early in the first and added two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
The Firehawks fought back with three runs in the fifth.
Cody Womble launched a home run that scored
Cannon Raby and
Devin Buckhalter.
Ridge Raper (4-8) took the loss in the six inning outing. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits.
GAME TWO: BPC 19, UTS 17
In game two, Raby and Buckner both homered in the first. Raby drove in Buckhalter. The Barons matched the Firehawks in the home half to tie the score at three.
The Barons added three more runs in the second to lead 6-3.
The Firehawks got two runs back on a
Coleman Siniard double in the third. His two bagger scored Buckner and Womble. UTS trailed 7-5 after three.
In the fourth, UTS scored five runs to take the lead. Raby started the scorefest with his single to center that scored
Evan Nelson and
Collin Perkins. Siniard added a run via a base on balls forcing in Buckhalter.
Mason Billions reached after being hit by a pitch pushing Raby across the plate. Perkins singled to left driving in Buckner.
With the lead in the sixth
Cole Barnett smashed a three run homer scoring Buckner and
Gage Beckner. UTS led 13-12 after six innings.
The Firehawks added two runs in the seventh. Siniard reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Buckhalter to come in. Womble later scored on a wild pitch. UTS led 15-12 heading to the eighth.
BPC plated seven runs in the eighth to lead 19-15.
In the ninth, Siniard homered driving in Raby.
Jake Stuteville got the start and tossed 5.1 innings allowing 12 runs.
Tavien Tigg (0-2) took the loss tossing 2.2 innings giving up seven runs.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will return to the diamond on Satuday, April 19
th, in the series finale with Brewton-Parker. The first pitch is set for noon.
