Stuteville Tosses a Complete Game Three Hitter, Firehawks Split Opening Pair with Stallions

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team welcomed Abraham Baldwin to Bobby Walker Field. ABAC took game one 15-6 and UTS returned the favor 10-3 in game two. Tomorrow's nine inning affair will be senior day and the Firehawk upper classmen will be honored prior to first pitch. UTS improved to 13-24 overall and 5-15 in league play on the season.
GAME ONE: ABAC 15, UTS 6
The Stallions scored a pair of runs in the first and second to lead 4-0. UT Southern battled back over the third and fourth. Cannon Raby singled through the right side scoring Zach Chaney. Later in the inning, Cody Womble was hit by a pitch forcing in Evan Nelson. UTS trailed 4-2 after three.
In the fourth, Chaney doubled to right scoring Collin Perkins. Devin Buckhalter hit a sacrifice fly to center driving in Chaney. After four innings, the score was tied at four.
In the fifth, ABAC added two more to retake the lead. The Firehawks added one on Coleman Siniard's double in the fifth. His shot plated Womble. ABAC led 6-5 after five.
In the sixth, Raby lined a double to left center scoring Chaney. UTS knotted up the game heading into the final inning.
Ridge Raper (2-7) took the loss tossing six innings. Raper allowed six earned runs on nine hits. Chambers McGilberry and Austin Uptain tossed the seventh.
GAME TWO: UTS 10, ABAC 3
Jake Stuteville (5-1) tossed the complete game allowing three earned runs on three hits. He struck out 14 in the gem performance.
ABAC took the early led scoring one in the top of the first. Cole Barnett singled down the left field line driving in Womble and Raby. UTS led 2-1 after one.
Buckhalter singled to right scoring Perkins in the third. The Firehawks added to their lead at 3-1.
In the fourth, the Firehawks added three more runs. Raby doubled down the left field line scoring Buckhalter and Evan Nelson. Brayden Buckner singled to left plating Raby. UTS led 6-1 after four.
In the fifth, Mason Billions launched a solo homer adding one more to the Firehawk lead.
ABAC scored two on a homerun in the sixth shaving the UTS lead to 7-3.
In the seventh, Billions singled to left driving in Womble. UTS led 8-3.
In the eighth, UTS added two more to cap off the win. Raby crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Billions added another single driving in Buckner.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will return action at Bobby Walker Field tomorrow for senior day against ABAC at noon.
