MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Ryosuke Furuya of UT Southern was named the SSAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, and Victoria Vieten of William Carey was named the SSAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The awards are based on performance for the week of March 31 – April 6.
Ryosuke Furuya (UT Southern – FR – Tokyo, Japan)
· This is his first-career honor
· Furuya went 3-1 in singles at the No. 1, 2 and 3 slots, while going 4-0 at No. 2 and 3 doubles
· The freshman helped the Firehawks pull out a 4-3 win over No. 25 Loyola and Mobile, going 4-0 in those contests, including getting. A 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles v. the Wolf Pack
Victoria Vieten (William Carey – JR – Dusseldorf, Germany)
· This is her fifth-career weekly honor and second-straight
· Vieten's week was highlighted by besting the ITA's No. 6 ranked singles player Lucy Carpenter 6-3, 6-3 in a win over the No. 8 ranked Wolf Pack
· The junior went 4-0 individually on the week as the Crusaders remained unbeaten in SSAC action
