HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team closed out the season series with NCAA DII Alabama-Huntsville on Tuesday. The Firehawks led 5-2 in the early going, but an eight run seventh inning grounded the Firehawks in a 11-8 loss. UTS moved to 14-25 overall this season.
UAH took the early lead scoring one run in the second. UTS followed up plating two in the third.
Cody Womble was hit by a pitch forcing in
Grayson Willis.
Brayden Buckner hit a sacrifice fly to center driving in
Devin Buckhalter. The Chargers added one in the bottom half to tie the score at two.
In the fifth,
Coleman Siniard doubled to right center plating Womble and
Cannon Raby.
Mason Billions followed up with a single through the left side scoring Buckner. UAH added a solo homer to trail 5-3 after five.
After the eight run seventh for the Chargers, UTS added three runs in the eighth. Buckner singled to right center knocking in Raby and Billions. Siniard singled to left driving in Womble.
Barrett Brown got the start in the pitch by committee outing. Brown tossed three innings allowing one earned run.
Jackson Moon tossed the fourth and fifth allowing one earned run.
Hunter Hancock tossed the sixth allowing three earned runs.
Danton Rinehart (0-2) and
Chambers McGilberry tossed the seventh.
Austin Uptain tossed a perfect eighth.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will return SSAC action on this weekend, traveling to Thomasville, Ga., to tango with Thomas. The three game set opens up at noon on Friday for a twin bill.
