FAYETTE, Mo. - The University of Tennessee Southern softball team continued the journey for a "Red Banner" avoiding elimination facing the third seed British Columbia Thunderbirds on Tuesday afternoon. UT Southern took the lead in the third and cruised to a 4-1 win. UTS improved to 32-20 on the year and advanced to a rematch of yesterdays five p.m. game with #8 LSU-Alexandria the top seed in the bracket. LSUA blanked UTS 6-0 in the third game of the bracket.
GAME SIX: UTS 4, UBC 1
The Firehawks started in the third compiling five hits, a Thunderbird error, and a hit by pitch to score three runs and bring nine Firehawks to the plate.
Lauren Pettie singled to short driving in
Ella Singletary.
Mikayla McCain reached on a fielder's choice allowing
Hanna Hill to score.
Marie Bodily singled to left field scoring McCain and
Kassidy Davis. UBC got one run back in the home half to trail 3-1.
Holding a slim two run advantage, UTS added one insurance run in the seventh. Davis ripped a double down the right field line scoring Hill from second.
Singletary got the start tossing three innings. She allowed five hits and one earned run.
Stella Gilbreath (10-12) earned the win in relief, hurling four innings. Gilbreath allowed five hits and no runs.
