JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team continued SSAC Championship pool play at Rockabillys Stadium on Thursday evening. The eighth seed Firehawks contested the fourth seed Knights. UT Southern came back from two deficits in the game to defeat Middle Georgia State 7-6.
MGSU took the first lead of the game scoring two runs in the first frame.
The Firehawks answered with a five-spot in the third.
Coleman Siniard singled through the left side scoring
Cody Womble and
Cannon Raby.
Mason Billions followed reaching with a fileder's choice driving in
Brayden Buckner. On the play, a Knight error allowed
Gage Beckner to score.
Evan Nelson singled to right plating Billions. UTS led 5-2 after three.
The Knights scored three in the fourth and one in the fifth taking back the lead at 6-5.
Siniard came through again with his single to center. The hit scored Buckner and Raby for the final lead change of the game.
Ridge Raper (5-10) tossed seven innings allowing three earned runs. Raper struck out five and gave up five hits.
Tavien Tigg (Sv. 4) tossed the final six outs not allowing a hit and recording one strikeout.
SSAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The SSAC baseball championship will continue on Friday, May 2, in Jackson, Tenn. UTS will tango with Blue Mountain Christian. The game is scheduled for seven p.m., but could be a later start as it is the fourth game of the day.
