MONTGOMERY, Ala. – UT Southern freshman Nico Garcia has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The honor marks the first weekly award of Garcia's collegiate career.
Garcia earned the recognition after leading the Firehawks at the Wildcat Fall Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana. The freshman from Barcelona, Spain finished tied for seventh individually in a competitive field and helped UT Southern capture a fourth-place team finish.
Garcia posted rounds of 75, 73, and 68 to finish the 54-hole event at 3-over par. His final-round 68 tied for the lowest round of the tournament and fueled a charge up the leaderboard.
After sitting at 6-over through his opening 36 holes, Garcia played his final round at 3-under par, highlighted by four birdies on the front nine. He made the turn at 4-under 33 before carding an even-par back nine to secure his top-10 finish.
Garcia's performance helped the Firehawks post consecutive team rounds of 288 and finish fourth in the nine-team field, ending just three strokes behind third-place Hastings.
The weekly honor is the first conference award of the season for the UT Southern men's golf program and continues a strong start to the 2026-27 campaign for the Firehawks.
