PULASKI, Tenn. – After being shutout for the first time all season in a 3-0 loss to Tennessee-Wesleyan on Sept. 29, the Martin Methodist Men's Soccer team will look to rebound tonight against No. 18 Bryan College.
Offensively, the RedHawks enter tonight's matchup with 25 goals scored on the season compared to just seven goals allowed. Niklas Larsson, Jonathan Cabale and Jermaine Steele enter the contest as the team's leading goalscorers, netting five goals each through the season's first nine matches.
The Lions, meanwhile, have been just as potent offensively, scoring a total of 26 goals on the year. Senior Andrew Knighten and junior Nathan Adams figure to lead the offensive charge for the Lions, having scored a team-high four goals each through the team's first nine matches.
Defensively, the RedHawks are hoping for a bounce-back performance from goalkeeper Stephen Lunney, who allowed three goals against nine shots on goal in Saturday's loss. Despite suffering the loss in net, Lunney was still named TranSouth Defensive Player of the Week after his clean sheet performance in a 1-0 win over Freed-Hardeman on Sept. 25.
Sophomore Josh Oldroyd figures to get the nod in net for the Lions, having appeared in all but one match this season. In his eight starts, Oldroyd has surrendered just seven goals while tallying a total of 28 saves and recording three cleans sheets on the year.
A pivotal game for both sides, Wednesday's contest will also mark the first meeting between the two squads in over seven years.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Martin Methodist's newly-renovated East Campus Soccer Complex. Live stats as well as live video of tonight's match can be found online at www.GoRedHawks.com.
