PULASKI, Tenn. - On this year's Strikeout Cancer day for MMC softball, the RedHawks fell to Lyon College, 7-2, before a hailstorm and heavy rain suspended the second game until Sunday. Beginning the game in the bottom of the first inning on April Fool's Day, MMC bounced back with a 5-1 win to bring their record to 22-14, 6-6 in league play.
The RedHawks scored two in the third inning of the first game to take an early lead, but a five-spot in the top of the 5th from the Scots would be the demise of the game.
Chrissy Darnell led MMC hitters with a two-RBI hit, but the junior also suffered the loss giving up seven runs on 10 hits. The Lyon staff held the RedHawks to just three hits, as Veronika Fukunishi and Megan Anderson joined in with a hit each, while three MMC errors came from the defense.
Fukunishi went 2-for-2 with three RBI to help the RedHawks to the 5-1 win on Sunday, as Chae Ellis also collected two hits and Kandace Christopher launched a bomb. Chrissy Worth picked up the win in the circle with four strikeouts and just one run on four hits.
The RedHawks continue conference play on Tuesday, April 3rd with a doubleheader scheduled with Mid-Continent, and another league series on Thursday with Union University.
