Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. - Martin Methodist softball used a big first game to earn a split with Freed Hardeman on the road on Saturday, winning 7-1 then suffering a 6-4 loss to the Lady Lions. Katlin White was 4-for-7 at the plate on the day, as Chrissy Darnell earned the first game win.
Darnell allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts and just one walk in the 7-1 victory, as she went the distance in the circle. Four batters tallied multiple hits, as the MMC offense also capitalized on four Freed errors.
The RedHawks did a handful of damage in the first inning, as Amber Kinsey led off with a single, and a fielder's choice gone bad on White's sacrifice bunt allowed both runners to reach safely. A wild pitch advanced both and when Fukunishi drew a walk, Darnell forced an error to score Kinsey, and another error on the play plated White. When Chae Ellis singled, runners advanced, and Fukunishi then scored on a bobble, and Darnell would later score on a groundout.
A White double in the second would turn into a run when Fukunishi singled for a 5-0 lead, as FHU would drive their first score to the plate in the fifth for a 5-1 score. In the seventh, back-to-back singles from Kandace Christopher and Ellis would score the final two to secure MMC's 7-1 win.
MMC delievered nine hits in the second game 6-4 loss, but leaving eight baserunners stranded. White and Darnell each tallied two hits as starting pitcher Chrissy Worth and Fukunishi collected the only RBI.
Worth went 4.2 innings with 10 hits in the loss, giving way to freshman Ashley Vann for the final innings, but despite a late MMC effort with two runs in the seventh, the RedHawks could not overcome the deficit.
MMC softball takes on Lyon College on Sunday afternoon for their final doubleheader of the week, starting at 12pm.
