BATESVILLE, Ark. - The RedHawks swept Lyon College on Sunday afternoon with 10-7 and 5-1 wins on the road, as Katlin White continued her success with a 6-for-7 performance at the plate, as MMC pounded 25 hits in the series.
Chrissy Darnell took home the win in game one, finishing with four runs on eight hits and four strikeouts in six innings of work, while Veronika Fukunishi drove in three runs with two hits.
The teams tangled in the first three innings, reaching a 4-4 knot by the third that would be broken by the RedHawks in the sixth when a walk and a base hit put Amber Kinsey and White on base for Fukunishi who drove both in with a single to right.
When Lyon failed to answer, the RedHawks then added four more in the seventh, running through the entire lineup with four runs on four hits. MMC then brought in Caroline Ezell to the circle for the seventh, and Lyon threatened with three runs, but were unable to overcome the RedHawks' late offensive spark.
Game two was scoreless until the third when Kinsey launched a solo bomb on a 2-2 count, and by the fourth, MMC had increased the lead to 5-0. Darnell and Kandace Christopher traded doubles to lead off the inning for the first run of the frame, as starter Chrissy Worth singled to plate Christopher. Then with Worth on base, Sam Queen blasted a long ball to left to round the MMC scoring.
Worth would hold the Scots offense to just one run, preserving the 5-1 score for the win, allowing just six hits, striking out four, and issuing just one walk.
MMC is now 28-16 overall, 12-8 TSAC, and will take on Bethel for the first time on Tuesday, April 17th.
