Softball: RedHawks Advance Early; Fall to Freed

JACKSON, Tenn. - The RedHawks used an 8-0, five-inning game over fifth-seeded Blue Mountain College on Friday afternoon to advance to the TranSouth Conference Championship semi-finals, before falling 9-1 in five innings to second-seeded Freed-Hardeman University. With the loss, the RedHawks finish the season with a 39-22 overall record.

Chrissy Darnell threw a one-hit gem against the Toppers to run her record to 18-4, ending Blue Mountain's time in Jackson.

Veronika Fukunishi and Chrissy Worth each had two hits for the Red Hawks,as Joanna Jones and Fukunishi each tallied two RBI in the affair. Seven RedHawk hits chased three pitchers for the Toppers, as MMC capitalized also on errors.

Against Freed, however, MMC found just two hits against what might be the TranSouth's best pitcher, Sarah Elizabeth Cousar. MMC's hurling staff gave up 13 total hits, as the RedHawks fell one game short of the conference finals.

The RedHawks will say goodbye to seniors Joanna Jones, Chrissy Worth, Kandace Christopher, Megan McKean, Beth Wilson, and Sam Queen.
