Women's Basketball: Nowlin, Wade Earn All-Conference Honors

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Martin Methodist guard Kelsey Nowlin and forward Kyoko Wade have been named to the Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference teams, the league office announced Wednesday.

OFFICAL RELEASE

Nowlin and Wade were named to the league's First and Second All-Conference teams, respectively, at the league's official awards banquet held at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.

Nowlin, a 5-foot-8 senior from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was named to the league's First Team All-Conference after averaging a team-best 12.6 points per contest in 2014-15. Nowlin was efficient from the floor for the RedHawks this season as her 45.3 field goal percentage ranks third-best in the conference and No. 33 in the NAIA. The guard was named All-Conference for a second straight season after also garnering a First Team nod a year ago.

Wade, 5-foot-10 sophomore from Nashville, Tennessee was named to the league's Second Team All-Conference after one of the top all-around seasons in the conference this season. The forward emerged as an everday starter near the midpoint of the season for the RedHawks and became one of the team's offensive and defensive stalwarts. Wade finished the regular season as the league's second-best rebounder with 9.6 boards per outing. The sophomore likely would have finished as the conference rebounding champion had she not suffered a late-season injury that saw her reduced to limited action down the stretch. Wade also averaged 8.0 points per game and was a two-time SSAC Women's Player of the Week.

"We are obviously excited for both Kelsey and Kyoko," RedHawks head coach Kyle Bent said. "They are two of the very best in what is a very tough league. Kelsey is as a dynamic scorer as there is and Kyoko was an absolute force for us in the post this season. It was great to see both of them rewarded for such hard work and commitment to our squad."

RedHawk junior Nina Mills was also honored during Wednesday's banquet as the Cullman, Alabama native was chosen as the RedHawks Champions of Character representative.

Abby Clayton, Sloan VanWinkle, Kelsie Smith and Mills were all named to the league's All-Academic team.

The RedHawks begin their quest for a SSAC conference title in the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday. The fourth-seeded RedHawks take on fifth-seed University of Mobile (Ala.).

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
