MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Brittany Bishop of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) has been selected as the SSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Bishop was chosen for her performances for the week ending April 19.
Bishop, a junior pitcher from Decatur, Alabama, led the RedHawks to upsets of No. 6 William Carey (Miss.) and No. 14 Mobile (Ala.), earning the win in both outings.
Bishop native pitched 27 1/3 innings and appeared in all five games on the week. She struck out three, while conceding 23 hits, one walk and seven earned runs to compile a 1.79 ERA.
Bishop's best performance came in the opener against No. 6 William Carey, when she tossed nine shutout innings and earned the win in a 2-1 RedHawk 10-inning victory.
Bishop paces the SSAC in walks allowed per game (.60), while ranking among the league leaders in walks (2nd, 8), earned run average (6th, 2.04), opponent batting average (10th, .240), earned runs allowed (11th, 27), wins (12th, 8), runs allowed (12th, 36), innings pitched (13th, 92.2), hits allowed per game (13th, 6.57) and strikeouts (17th, 33).
Nationally, Bishop ranks 5th in walks per game (.60) and 13th in walks (8).
Bishop is the first Pitcher of the Week of the season for the RedHawks and joins teammate Dharianna Familia as the other RedHawk to receiver a conference weekly award this season.
