Bishop Repeats as SSAC Pitcher of the Week

PULASKI, Tenn. – For the second time in as many weeks, Martin Methodist Softball standout Brittany Bishop has been named Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 3, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Bishop, a senior for the RedHawks (30-9, 7-3 SSAC), guided the club to three victories in all three of her appearances last week. The Decatur, Alabama native shined brightest when she lifted the RedHawks to a road win at No. 1 Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) on Saturday.

The Decatur, Ala., native surrendered 17 hits and three walks over 21 innings of work. Bishop compiled a 0.67 ERA and struck out eight batters on the week, allowing just two earned runs.

In addition to the win over AUM, Bishop also stymied Bethel (Tenn.) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats entered the afternoon as one of the premier offensive teams in the NAIA this season.

Bishop added another victory on Friday at home as she went the distance in a win over Bryan (Tenn.).

Bishop paces the SSAC with 127 1/3 innings pitched and .88 walks allowed per game, while ranking among the SSAC leaders in wins (2nd, 16), earned run average (3rd, .99), saves (4th, 1), opponents batting average (8th, .208), hits allowed per game (8th, 5.44), walks (8th, 16), strikeouts (9th, 59), earned runs allowed (10th, 18), innings pitched per game (13th, 4.72) and runs allowed (13th, 27).

On the national level, the senior ranks third in wins, sixth in ERA, eighth in innings pitched, 18th in walks allowed per game, 37th in hits allowed per game, 40th in opponent's batting average and 43rd in saves.

Bishop and the RedHawks, which were ranked No. 26 in the latest NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, square off against Bryan (Tenn.) again on Tuesday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. in Dayton, Tennessee.
