MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Martin Methodist Women's Basketball team cruised to an 89-60 victory over Faulkner (Ala.) University Thursday night.
The win marked a ninth-straight victory for the RedHawks (18-4, 9-0 SSAC), who led by as many as 35 points in the lopsided affair.
The Eagles (16-5, 4-5) led early in the contest after a 3-pointer, but Martin Methodist went on a 15-4 run midway through the first quarter and never looked back.
The RedHawks shot 48 percent from the floor in the victory and poured in a program-record 16 3-pointers. Martin Methodist connected on 16-of-36 attempts from downtown and the 16 makes marked the most since the RedHawks connected on 13 shots from distance in a win versus Fisk (Tenn.) on Jan. 28, 2013.
Nine different players swished home a 3-pointer as four RedHawks finished the night in double-figures.
Destiney Williams matched a career-high with 16 points, while Bethany Lamon set a new career-best with 14 points off the bench. Mickey Head also added 14 and Lacey Reed scored 12 in the win.
As a team, the RedHawks dominated the Eagles on the boards with a 38-27 edge on the glass. Head tracked down nine rebounds for the RedHawks to lead the way.
Brooklyn Blanchard narrowly missed her first-ever double-double as the point guard scored eight points and handed out a game-high nine assists.
Savana Flack led the Eagles with 14 points in the defeat.
The RedHawks will look to push their win streak to double-digits when they host Oakwood (Ala.) University in a non-conference matchup on Saturday night. The contest marks the final non-conference showdown of the season.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Curry Christian Life Center.
