PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Women's Basketball team never trailed and led by as many as 41 points en route to an 86-47 victory versus Cumberland (Tenn.) Saturday afternoon in the Curry Christian Life Center.
The win lifted the RedHawks (7-4) to a perfect 5-0 record inside the CLC this season. The contest was the final home matchup of the calendar year for the RedHawks, who have three road contests to close out 2018.
The RedHawks controlled the game from the opening tip and raced out to a 23-12 lead after the first quarter of play. They outscored the Phoenix (2-7) by a 26-7 margin in the second quarter to build a commanding 49-19 halftime lead.
11 different RedHawks saw minutes in the blowout victory – six of which finished the day in double-figures.
Marcia Reed led the way with 15 points and added 10 rebounds for her first career double-double – just the second by a RedHawk this season. Reed also added three blocks on the day.
Faith Sherrow added 14 off the bench for the RedHawks as she connected on 4-of-4 attempts from the floor – all from beyond the arc. The freshman added two more points at the free-throw line to finish a perfect 6-for-6 across all attempts on the day.
Taylor McNairy also finished the day a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor and added a perfect four free throw attempts to finish with 12 points. The sophomore also added a team-best four steals.
Brooklyn Blanchard, Samariah Thompson and Lacey Reed all finished with 10 points on the day. Reed added six rebounds, two assists and three blocks in the all-around performance.
As a team, the RedHawks connected on 29-of-64 shots from the floor and went 7-of-14 from downtown. They outrebounded the Phoenix, 41-27, and forced 26 turnovers while they committed just 14 turnovers themselves. The RedHawks added 13 assists on the afternoon.
Next, the RedHawks will travel to McKenzie, Tennessee for an SSAC showdown versus rival Bethel.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15.
