RedHawks Win Streak Snapped at Loyola

NEW ORLEANS – In a matchup of two of the top programs in the SSAC, the Martin Methodist Women's Basketball team saw its 12-game win streak snapped in a 65-53 loss at Loyola (La.) University Thursday night.

Despite the loss, the RedHawks (21-5, 11-1 SSAC) remain in first place of the conference standings by a half game over the Wolf Pack (18-4, 10-1 SSAC). The teams split their two regular-season meetings.

After a back-and-forth first half, the home team pulled ahead in the third quarter as they outscored the RedHawks 26-14 in the frame. The RedHawks whittled a double-digit deficit to just seven points, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Jemia Carpenter led the RedHawks with 19 points on an 8-of-20 shooting night. Brooklyn Blanchard added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds in the defeat.

Wolf Pack standout guard Zoie Miller led the home side with 24 points.

The RedHawks were dominated on the glass as the Wolf Pack earned a 48-32 rebounding edge. The home team also shot 14-of-18 at the free throw line while the RedHawks went 6-of-9.

The RedHawks will look to rebound quickly as they travel to University of Mobile (Ala.) Saturday afternoon. Tipoff in Saturday's contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Mobile, Alabama.
