RedHawks Stun Roadrunners, Move to SSAC Semis

Box Score

DALTON, Ga. – It took 74 minutes, but one moment was all that was needed as the No. 5 seed Martin Methodist Men's Soccer team knocked off No. 4 Dalton State (Ga.) Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the 2019 SSAC Men's Soccer Championship.

In a rematch of a hard-fought regular-season finale played just a week ago, the RedHawks (13-6) went on the road and claimed the one-goal victory versus the Roadrunners (13-5-1).

After the game was deadlocked for well over an hour, RedHawk forward Nawn Thang buried the match-winner in the 74th minute after a pass from midfielder Miguel Tizapa.

Thang's match-winner was the freshman's sixth goal of the season and his third game-winning goal this season.

Nathan Brown stood tall in net for the RedHawks, making four saves in the 90-minute clean sheet performance.

The win punched the RedHawks ticket to the SSAC semifinal, where they will meet No. 1 seed University of Mobile (Ala.). The semifinal berth marks the RedHawks first trip to Montgomery, Alabama for the league semifinals since 2015.

Kickoff in next Thursday's semifinal is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery.
