RedHawks Rally Past Faulkner on Road

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Martin Methodist Women's Basketball team utilized a fourth-quarter comeback to escape with a 64-62 victory at Faulkner (Ala.) Saturday afternoon.

The win marked a second straight road victory for the RedHawks (15-9, 9-5 SSAC) after they also defeated Middle Georgia State on Thursday.

Trailing 48-44 entering the fourth quarter, the RedHawks outscored the Eagles (12-10, 5-8 SSAC) by six points in the game's final 10 minutes to seize the victory.

Down by one with just over four minutes to play, the RedHawks claimed a 56-55 lead that they would never relinquish. The lead moved to as many as four down the stretch, but Faulkner mounted one last comeback attempt.

After two missed free throws gave the ball back to the Eagles, the RedHawks withstood two final Faulkner shot attempts to pull out the win.

Faith Sherrow and Brooklyn Blanchard led the RedHawks with 13 points apiece in the win. Areyanna Majors and Bethany Lamon added 10 each.

The RedHawks were limited to just nine assists but only committed 10 turnovers, while they forced the Eagles (12-10, 5-8 SSAC) into 22 turnovers.

The RedHawks return to the Curry Christian Life Center this week when they host Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Thursday and welcome rival Bethel (Tenn.) on Saturday for Homecoming 2019.
