Pulaski, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball team defeated the University of the Cumberlands in an 79-70 contest on Thursday night.

"Cumberlands is a great ball club," commented Coach Billy Evans. "We knew they would be physical. We were able to contain their high-power offense and we held them to just 70 points. I am proud of our girls, and we look ahead to a tough Pikeville squad on Saturday."

• UTS outrebounded the Patriots 28-27.
