Box Score 2 Talladega, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team opened their season today splitting a pair with Talladega. The Tornados whirled up a 6-1 win in game one, but the Firehawks blasted TC 11-4 in game two.
"It's great to begin another season of softball," said head coach Brandie Paul. "We started game one out slowly, but we got our bats going to finish on a positive note."
Game One
- Sydney Self, Shelby Clifton, and Kayla Lawrence combined for UTS' three hits.
- UTS drew nine free passes, while only striking out eight times.
- The Firehawks left 11 ducks on the pond.
- Savannah Sands fell to 0-1 on the season. She allowed five hits and 3 earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched.
- Ana Aaron finished game one allowing two earned runs on three base knocks.
- Raquel Galvan when the distance for TC allowing one earned run.
Game Two
- UTS combined for 11 runs on 11 hits. Bree Brady and Carlie Pendley had two hits each.
- Robbi Guthrie led the way with four RBI.
- Samantha King notched her first win of the season. She gave up four earned runs on eight hits in the complete-game effort.
- Hailey Curtis allowed four earned runs on seven hits in four innings pitched for the Tornados to fall to 0-1.
- Galvan finished game two only allowing one earned run and four hits.
NEXT UP
UTS will host Faulkner at Royce Hughes field on February 15th. The Firehawks and Eagles will do battle at 2 pm with game two to follow.
