Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team had the tying run in scoring position, but couldn't level the game falling 7-5 to Cumberland on Wednesday.
MSC OPENING ROUND
CU would get on the board first scoring six runs in the first.
UTS would answer with a four-run third. Kaley Ezell would ground out to first to drive in Allie Toone. Stella Gilbreath would double to right scoring Mckenzie Cain and Sydney Self. Abigail Hornbuckle would add a single scoring Gilbreath. UTS would trail 6-4 after three.
Both teams would add a run in the fourth. Ezell's single up the middle would score Gilbreath. UTS would trail CU 7-5 after four.
In the final inning, Lawrence would single, and Hornbuckle would double to have the tying run in scoring position. UTS would run out of chances.
Gilbreath would suffer the loss hurling six innings. Gilbreath would allow five earned runs on eight hits.
