Box Score 2 PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern softball team opened their 2024 season with a bang. UT Southern trounced Sewanee 16-0 in game one and exploded for an 12-3 win in game two. The game one win began the Coach Murphy Davis era at UTS with her first career win.
GAME ONE
Kassidy Davis drew a walk in the opening inning pushing Allie Toone across the dish. After one UT Southern led 1-0.
In the second, Hannah Lindsey singled through the middle driving in Sydney Self. The Firehawks led 2-0 after two.
In the third, UTS would explode for 11 runs. Hanna Hill doubled to left center scoring Davis and Mikayla McCain. Self reached on a Tiger error allowing Abigail Hornbuckle to score. Toone singled to right center driving in Self and Hill. While Toone stole second, Hayley Parrott scored on a throwing error. Lindsey doubled to left scoring Toone. McCain singled to right scoring Lindsey. Hill drove a sacrifice fly to left driving in McCain. Kaley Ezell tripled to right center scoring Davis and Hornbuckle. After three UTS led 13-0.
In the fourth, the Firehawks added three more runs. Lindsay hit a sacrifice fly to left driving in Toone. Davis singled up the middle scoring Stella Gilbreath. Alyssa Mosley reached on a fielder's choice as Makenna Birdsong crossed the plate.
Davis tossed a gem earning her first win of the season. She allowed two hits and fanned a pair of Tiger batters in four innings of work. Macey Ciramella recorded the final three outs allowing one hit.
GAME TWO
In game two, Lindsey doubled to right center scoring Hayley Parrott. Davis doubled to center field scoring Lindsey. Ezell singled to right center driving in McCain and Davis. Hill doubled to right field to score Gilbreath. Parrott reached on a free pass scoring Ezell. Toone reached on a fielder's choice scoring Hill. Lindsey doubled to right center scoring Self and Parrott. McCain hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Toone. UTS led 10-0 after one.
In the second, Self launched a sacrifce fly to center allowing Davis to come home. Parrott singled to short driving in Gilbreath. UTS led 12-0 after two.
Sewanee would add one in the third and two in the fourth.
Gilbreath got the start and pitched two innings allowing one hit and one walk. Jayci Boozer was credited with the win tossing one inning allowing one earned run. Ella Singletary tossed the final two innings allowing two runs.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will host Bryan for a twin bill tomorrow at Royce Hughes Field with game one starting at 2 p.m.
