Box Score 2 McKENZIE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern softball team played their first road twin bill of the season, traveling the Bethel University. Bethel took game one 10-9, and UTS claimed game two 6-4 on Tuesday.
GAME ONE
Bethel (3-0) got on the board first scoring three in the first. BU led 3-0 after one.
In the third, UT Southern (6-1) would get on the board when Hannah Lindsey singled scoring Hayley Parrott. UTS trailed 3-1.
In the fourth, Sydney Self hit a sacrifice fly to center driving in Mikayla McCain. Allie Toone tripled scoring Kaley Ezell, Hanna Hill, and Parrott. Lindsey singled driving in Toone. UTS led 6-3 after four.
In the fifth, Parrott would double scoring Ezell and McCain. In the bottom half, they Wildcats scored five to tie the match at eight.
In the sixth, McCain reached on a fielder's choice allowing Lindsey to score. In the Wildcat half, BU would push another run across to tie the game at nine heading to the seventh.
Bethel would push one across in the final inning to win 10-9.
Kassidy Davis tossed 4.2 innings in the start. Davis allowed seven earned runs. Jayci Boozer (2-1) tossed the final 1.2 innings. She allowed two earned runs.
GAME TWO
In game two, Bethel (3-1) would strike first scoring four in the opening inning.
In the third, UT Southern (7-1) slashed the lead in half on Toone's double. The two bagger scored Self and Hill. Lindsey swiped second allowing Toone to cross the plate. UTS trailed 4-3 after three.
In the fourth, Parrott flew out of the yard driving in Hill. UTS led 5-4 heading to the fifth.
In the fifth, Ezell drew a free pass pushing Lindsey across the plate. The Firehawks led 6-4.
Stella Gilbreath (2-0) got the start and pitched a complete game. She allowed three earned runs on five hits.
NEXT UP
The Firehawks will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to open SSAC play facing William Carey on Friday, February 23rd. First pitch of the twin bill is scheduled for 3 p.m.
