MONTGOMERY, Ala. – UT Southern senior Maryssa Phillips has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The honor marks the first weekly award of Phillips' career and the second consecutive week a Firehawk golfer has earned conference recognition, following Nico Garcia's SSAC Men's Golfer of the Week selection.

Phillips earned the award after helping lead UT Southern to the team championship at the Firehawk Fall Invitational, hosted by the Firehawks at Canebrake Golf Club in Athens, Alabama.

The Lexington, Kentucky native turned in one of the best performances of the tournament, finishing tied for second individually with a 54-hole total of 224 (+8). Phillips carded rounds of 76, 72, and 76, including an even-par 72 during the second round.

Her runner-up finish helped power the Firehawks to a team score of 918, allowing UT Southern to claim the tournament title by two strokes over Freed-Hardeman. Phillips was one of three Firehawks to finish inside the top six and one of four UT Southern golfers to place among the top 15.

The award is a testament to Phillips' leadership and consistency as one of the veteran members of the Firehawk lineup. Her performance played a pivotal role in securing UT Southern's first team championship of the 2026-27 season.

Phillips and the Firehawks will return to action Sept. 26-29 at the Invite at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida.
