Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Tenn. (4/17) -- After dropping a pair of conference games at Lyon College Saturday, Martin Methodist rebounded with a conference split against Freed-Hardeman University on Sunday.
The RedHawks jumped out early on the Lions early, scoring four runs in the game's first half inning and cruising to a 10-6 victory.
Amber Kinsey (Sophomore/Murfreesboro, Tenn.) had a big night for the RedHawks, going 2-for-3 with a double and a homer. Kinsey led all RedHawks with three RBIs and also scored two runs.
RedHawks pitcher Katlin White (Sophomore/Alabaster, Ala.) picked up the win on the mound, striking out nine Lions in 7.2 innings of work. White surrerended three runs - two earned - on a total of eight hits.
In the second game, Martin Methodist fell one run shy of the doubleheader sweep, falling 3-2 the Lions in extra innings.
In a game that saw both starting pitchers pitch 8-plus innings, the RedHawks were unable to capitalize on their nine hits, stranding a total of nine baserunners.
RedHawks first baseman Sam Queen (Junior/Brentwood, Tenn.) hit a solo home run to put MMC in front early, but they would score just one run the remainder of the game.
RedHawks starter Chrissy Worth (Junior/Cornersville, Tenn.) pitched 8.2 innings and allowed just one earned run. She was pulled in the bottom of the ninth on the hook for the game's winning run.
With the split, the RedHawks hit the road again for another conference doubleheader Tuesday at Blue Mountain College.
