RedHawks Fall in Extras, Eliminated at MSC Tourney

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Martin Methodist Softball team saw its 2021 season come to a close Friday afternoon with a tough-luck, 5-2 loss in extra innings to Georgetown (Ky.) at the 2021 Mid-South Conference Softball Championship.

The loss came in the bottom of the eighth when the designated home team cranked a three-run home run over the wall in right-center field to push Georgetown ahead for the three-run victory.

The RedHawks (11-30) outhit the Tigers (25-19) by a 6-5 margin, with Samantha King posting two of the six hits on the day. King finished the afternoon 2-for-4, but her second at-bat was crucial as she tied the ballgame at 2-2 with a two-run blast in the top of the third.

Hannah Hayes, who slid into the pitcher's circle, also led off for the RedHawks. Hayes singled, stole a bag and scored the other run of the afternoon when King homered.

Hayes tossed four innings in the circle, allowing two earned runs on three hits in the 14 batters faced. Jennifer Corbitt supplanted Hayes in the circle, lasting 3.2 innings before the walkoff hit in the bottom of the eighth.

Megan Brankamp pitched all eight innings to secure the win for the Tigers.
