PULASKI, Tenn. – The UT Southern men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Blue Mountain Christian on Saturday afternoon at Grissom Pitch.
At halftime of the UT Southern women's soccer match, the Firehawks recognized five members of the senior class: David Danquah, George Grice, Luke McMahon, Daniel Reyes, and Santiago Valencia.
With the win, UT Southern improved to 7-0-1 overall and 3-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play, extending its unbeaten streak to eight matches.
The Firehawks controlled much of the first half and capitalized on their opportunities to build a two-goal advantage before the break.
UT Southern opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Benjamin Chretien found the back of the net off an assist from Felix Hammel. The goal marked Chretien's second of the season and gave the Firehawks an early lift.
The advantage doubled late in the half as Nick Miske continued his recent scoring surge. Tyrell Inniss delivered the assist, and Miske finished in the 42nd minute for his third goal of the season, sending UT Southern into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half belonged largely to Blue Mountain Christian, which turned up the pressure offensively and tested the Firehawk defense throughout the final 45 minutes.
After holding the visitors scoreless through the first 80 minutes, UT Southern saw Blue Mountain Christian break through in the 82nd minute to trim the deficit to 2-1. The visiting side continued to push forward in search of an equalizer, creating several dangerous chances in the closing minutes.
Goalkeeper William McGinn delivered one of his best performances of the season when the Firehawks needed it most. McGinn recorded eight saves, all in the second half, including a series of critical stops over the final nine minutes to preserve the victory.
Despite being outshot 16-12 overall, UT Southern made the most of its first-half opportunities and relied on a resilient defensive effort late to remain unbeaten.
