NASHVILLE – The Martin Methodist Men's Tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss at NCAA Division I Belmont University in its season opener Monday.
Senior standout Jesus Quesada picked up the lone point for the RedHawks on the afternoon. Quesada built a 5-1 lead in the first set versus Joan Valy, before Valy retired and conceded the point to Quesada.
"It is always tough to start the season against a good Division I team like Belmont," RedHawks head coach Bill Riddle said. "But it was a good test for our guys against a quality opponent early in the season. This competition will make us better and get us where we want to be later in the season."
The contest marked a late January tuneup for the RedHawks, who will play seven matches in the month of February.
The RedHawks return to action versus another NCAA opponent on February 9 when they travel to NCAA Division II foe Alabama-Huntsville.
